The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Med Surg Neuro unit provides skilled nursing care to patients, focusing on neurological and post-surgical medical care. This role involves patient monitoring, medication administration, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN will work night shifts and must be proficient in telemetry, emergency response, and various medical procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to Med Surg Neuro patients.
- Perform telemetry monitoring and respond to emergency situations.
- Administer medications, including heparin, insulin, and PCA.
- Manage patients with conditions such as CVA, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.
- Provide care for patients with surgical drains, chest tubes, and tracheostomies.
- Perform wound care and manage wound vacs.
- Conduct patient assessments and implement treatment plans.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Cerner.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Provide colostomy and feeding tube care and management.
- Perform continuous bladder irrigation.
- Access ports, administer blood products, and manage central and PICC lines.
- Start IVs and provide peripheral line care.
- Apply isolation precautions.
- Provide respiratory support, including CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen administration.
- Perform oral suctioning.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience.
- BLS certification.
- NIHSS certification.
- Telemetry experience.
- Experience with Rapid Response Teams.
- Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube care and management.
- Experience accessing ports, administering blood products, and managing central and PICC lines.
- Peripheral Line Care/Management and Starting IVs experience.
- Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medication experience.
- CVA, Pre/Post Neuro Surgery, Spinal cord injuries, and Traumatic Brain injury experience.
- Experience with Surgical drains.
- Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac, CPAP/BiPAP, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management, Oral suctioning, Oxygen face masks, Portable Oxygen tank, Pre/Post Thoracic Surgery, Tracheostomy Management experience.
- Isolation Precautions and Wound Care/Wound Vac experience.
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation experience.
- Cerner experience.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Teaching Hospital Experience.
- Trauma Level II Experience.
Special Considerations:
- Must work every other weekend.
- May float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without pay.
- On-call is not required.
- RTO restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days.
Scheduling:
- 4x12 or 3x12 night shifts (1800-0630).
